Beijing Airport Express

All the information featured on this page was compiled and written by David Enrich, a renowned expert in aviation and airport guides since 1999.

The Beijing Airport Express is one of the fastest and most convenient ways to travel between Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and the city centre. The line is part of the Beijing Subway network and provides a direct rail connection from the airport terminals to central Beijing.

Compared with airport shuttle buses, the Airport Express is faster, more reliable and less affected by traffic, making it a popular option for both business travelers and tourists.

If you are traveling light and heading to central Beijing, the Airport Express is usually the quickest and most predictable transport option.

Airport Express route

The Airport Express connects the airport with two important transportation hubs in the city.

Route:
Terminal 3 → Terminal 2 → Sanyuanqiao → Dongzhimen

  • Sanyuanqiao Station: connection with Beijing Subway Line 10
  • Dongzhimen Station: connection with Subway Line 2 and Line 13

Dongzhimen is one of the main transport hubs in Beijing and provides easy access to many areas of the city.

From Dongzhimen you can reach areas such as Wangfujing, the Forbidden City and Beijing Railway Station by subway in a short time.

Service hours

Airport Express trains operate daily from early morning until late evening.

Terminal 2:
06:36 AM – 11:10 PM

Terminal 3:
06:22 AM – 10:52 PM

Dongzhimen:
06:00 AM – 10:30 PM

Trains run approximately every 10 minutes, offering frequent service throughout the day.

If your flight arrives late at night, taxis may be the best option because the train service stops before midnight.

Travel times

The Airport Express is significantly faster than road transport during peak hours.

Approximate travel times:

  • Terminal 2 → Dongzhimen: about 21 minutes
  • Terminal 3 → Dongzhimen: about 30 minutes
  • Terminal 3 → Terminal 2: about 10 minutes

This makes the train an excellent option for avoiding Beijing’s heavy road traffic.

If you arrive at Terminal 3 but your flight departs from Terminal 2, the Airport Express can also be used as a quick transfer option.

Airport Express stations at PEK

Stations are located close to the airport terminals and are clearly signposted inside the airport.

Terminal 2

  • Located on Basement Level -2 (B2)
  • Connected to Parking Garage No. 2

Terminal 3

  • Located on the 2nd floor of Parking Garage No. 3

Passengers can reach the stations easily by following the “Airport Express” or “Subway” signs inside the terminals.

Allow 5–10 minutes walking time from the terminal arrival hall to the train platforms.

Fares

The Airport Express has a flat fare system.

  • One-way ticket: approximately ¥25 (RMB)

This makes it one of the most affordable transport options between the airport and the city.

The Airport Express is significantly cheaper than taxis, especially for solo travelers.

Where to buy tickets

Passengers can purchase tickets in several ways:

  • Ticket vending machines at Airport Express stations
  • Manual ticket counters
  • Beijing Transportation Smart Card (Yikatong)

Ticket machines usually offer English language options, making them easy to use for international visitors.

If you plan to use public transport frequently during your stay, buying a transport card (Yikatong) can save time and make transfers easier.
